
Kazakhstan: The main consumer of Kazakh lentils is Turkey
One of the main markets for the sale of Kazakh lentils during the previous years was Turkey, and the growth of supplies is still observed.
During the past marketing year, 84 thousand tons of lentils were exported to Turkey, which in percentage reached 89% of the total export volume. In addition, the previous marketing year was a record year for shipment of lentils and exports volume reached 94 thousand tons.
Also, based on the results of the first six months of the current marketing year, we can see an increase in export potential and growth in supplies, including supplies to Turkey.
During the period from July to November of the current marketing year, 37.3 thousand tons of lentils were exported, which is 33% more than during the same period in the previous marketing year.
This trend is observed due to the increase in production in the country. So, over the past five years, the area under lentils has grown 26 times, and this year amounted to 295 thousand hectares. Forecasts for the harvest of lentils this marketing year are 324.5 thousand tons.
And the main consumer of Kazakh lentils is still Turkey, importing 86% of total exports.
