UKRAINE: Corn and sunflower crops damaged in the Odesa Region

At night from 21.07. to 22.07 bad weather damaged corn and sunflower crops. Barley was damaged the days before, but as it is not as high, it will be possible to harvest about 80%.

This will negatively affect the harvest and may lead to a decrease in production volumes in the area. In this regard, it is necessary to carry out additional measures to protect crops from adverse weather conditions, as well as to strengthen control over the quality of seeds used.

Possible causes of damage to crops can be various, for example, adverse weather conditions, non-compliance with the rules of cultivation technology, violation of the application of fertilizers or the use of protective equipment. It is important to analyze the causes and develop measures to prevent the recurrence of similar situations in the future.

Despite this, Ukrainian agrarians continue to actively work to increase the volume of agricultural production and its exports. It is important to support and develop domestic production, as well as continue to look for new markets for Ukrainian products.

As of 20.07.2021, early crops have been harvested from an area of 265 thousand hectares with a yield of 40.7 c/ha.

Currently, more winter wheat and barley are being harvested (about 70 thousand tonnes each).
