Ukraine: In 2017, Ukraine produced 62 million tons of cereals

During the 12 months of 2017, Ukraine managed to produce and harvest 62.3 million tons of grain crops. This indicator exceeds the average one for the last five years.

Such data was provided by FAO.

During the 12 months of 2017, 26.6 million tons were produced, which is more than the figure of the previous year, but still less that the record wheat production in 2015. In addition, the amount of flour milling wheat is also less than the indicator of the past year.

The report says that corn was already harvested in November, and in total during the 2017 it was produced 25.500.000 tons, which is 9% less than the indicator of 2016. Since there was a catastrophically small amount of precipitation during the vegetation period, the yield decreased by 10%, and since there were too many precipitations during the harvesting period, the quality of grain was affected badly.

In addition, in 2016 barley production decreased by 11% and amounted to 8.4 million tons. Such a decrease can be explained by a decrease in the sown areas as well as non-competitive prices, which caused farmers to choose more profitable crops.

It should be recalled that the production of wheat in the world in the current marketing year will reach a level of 757 million tons, which is 8 million tons less than the November forecast.
