Ukraine: Import volumes of maize and sunflower for January
During the first month of this year, Ukraine imported almost 6.200 t of corn. The cost of imports to Ukraine amounted to 21.81 million dollars.
Such information was provided by the State Fiscal Service.
The main exporters of maize to Ukraine were Romania (3020 t were supplied from this country, the cost of delivery was 10.66 million dollars), Hungary (1240 t were supplied from this country, the cost of delivery was 4.39 million dollars) and France (930 t were supplied from this country, the cost of delivery was 3.29 million dollars).
Also, during the first month of the current year, 3700 t of sunflower seeds were imported to Ukraine. The cost of imports to Ukraine amounted to 35.48 million dollars.
Such information was provided by the State Fiscal Service.
The main exporters of sunflower to Ukraine were Turkey (1890 t were supplied from this country, the cost of delivery was 18.33 million dollars), the USA (640 t were supplied from this country, the cost of delivery was 6.23 million dollars) and France (550 t were supplied to this country, the cost of delivery was 5.3 million dollars).
In January, Ukraine continued to import corn and sunflower, despite the fact that this month is the beginning of a new export year. According to the State Statistics Service, in January 2023, Ukraine imported 132 thousand tons of corn, which is 60.7% more than in January 2022. In addition, sunflower imports amounted to 11 thousand tons, which is almost twice as much as a year earlier.
The main suppliers of corn to Ukraine in January 2023 were the USA (62.6 thousand tons), Brazil (33.3 thousand tons) and South Africa (18.4 thousand tons). Sunflower was supplied mainly from Russia (6.9 thousand tons) and Belarus (2.6 thousand tons).
Thus, despite the high production of corn and sunflower in Ukraine, the country continues to import these crops, probably due to better prices or a shortage of products in the domestic market. In any case, such imports may affect the prices of these crops within the country.
