Ukraine: Almost 90% of winter crops are in good condition

To date, the condition of 86.4% of winter crops in Ukraine is considered as good and satisfactory. However, the condition of 13.6% of the total amount of winter sowings is considered as weak.

The condition of almost 89% of winter rapeseed sowing is considered as good and satisfactory, while 11.1% of crops are in a weak condition, and 0.1% or 1 thousand hectare are dead.

It should be recalled that this year 7.265 million hectares were allocated for winter crops, and the seeds sprouted on the territory of 7.236 million hectares, or as a percentage 99.6%. In addition, rape sprouted on the territory of 991.7 thousand hectares, while it was allocated 1.1 million hectares for it.

More than 87% of winter crops in Ukraine are in good condition, which indicates the possibility of a good harvest. In particular, wheat and barley have the most favorable conditions for growth.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the total area under winter crops for the 2022 harvest is about 8.5 million hectares. At the beginning of April 2022, more than 87% of crops are in good condition, which is 9% higher than last year.

Experts note that the good condition of winter crops is associated with mild winters, sufficient rainfall and optimal temperature conditions for the growth and development of plants.

The most common winter crops in Ukraine are wheat, barley, rye and rapeseed. Currently, preparations are underway for the sowing campaign of spring crops, which will begin in the near future.

In general, the favorable situation with winter crops in Ukraine allows us to hope for a good harvest and further development of the country’s agricultural sector.
