Ukraine: The period from September to May 2017/18 MY showed a decline in the export supplies of corn

During the period from September to May of the current MY, the volume of maize exports decreased by 17%. In addition, the pace of exports has become the lowest in the past few seasons.

Such information was provided by the portal “UkrAgroConsult”.

Between September and May of the current MY, shipments abroad reached a level of 15.000.000 t, which is 17% less than the indicator for the previous season (then the level of deliveries was 18.200.000 t).

In addition, in May 2018, much less exports were made. The total volume for this period was 1.800.000 t, which is 21% less than the indicator for April and 32% higher than in May of the previous year.

Export of corn to the EU countries decreased by 10%, also a decrease in exports was observed in such directions as Egypt (31%), Iran (58%) and Tunisia (43%).

During this period, exports to China increased by 182%, as well as supplies to Turkey increased from almost 94.000 t to almost 998.000 t.

During the period from September to May of this year, corn exports from Ukraine decreased. The reason for this was low prices for corn on the world market and competition from other grain producers. However, Ukrainian producers do not give up and are trying to find new sales markets, as well as to develop local corn processing. For example, they are increasing the production of corn flour and corn flakes, which can find demand in domestic and export markets. It is also important to note that some corn importing countries have become more demanding on its quality, so Ukrainian producers should pay more attention to grain sizing and sorting.
