Ukraine: Cargo shipping by Dnepr increased by 26%

During the twelve months of 2017, the cargo turnover on the Dnepr was 8.095.000 tons, which is 1.700.000 t more than the last year, or by 26%.

The turnover of containers on the Dnepr increased by 13.8%. In 2017, 1948 containers were transported on the Dnepr.

Such information was provided by UkrAgroConsult.

Transportation of goods on the Dnepr was carried out from the end of March to December and during this time 13408 vessels passed through the Dnepr, which is 13% higher than in 2016. During the 12 months of 2016, 6.4 million tons of cargo and 1711 containers were transported on the Dnepr.

It should be recalled that during the 12 months of 2017, 35.4 million tons of grain were exported from Ukrainian’s seaports, which is 6% less than in 2016.

The Dnieper is one of the main rivers of Ukraine, which plays an important role in the transportation of goods. Cargo turnover on the Dnieper increased significantly by 26% compared to the previous year. This is due to the growth in exports of grain and metal products, which are traditionally the main cargo in river transport. In addition, the increased demand for river transport services also contributed to the increase in freight traffic.

Transportation of goods along the Dnieper is the most cost-effective way to transport goods in the regions that are along the river. This is especially true for grain exports, since most agricultural enterprises are located in the vicinity of the Dnieper and use it as the main transport corridor for the delivery of their products for export.

In addition, river transport is a more environmentally friendly way of transporting goods compared to other modes of transport, which also contributes to an increase in demand for river transport services.

In general, the increase in cargo turnover along the Dnieper is a positive trend for the Ukrainian economy, as it contributes to an increase in exports and the development of river transport in the country.
