Ukraine: Export volumes of rye amounted to 25 thousand tons
During September, more than 25.000 tons of rye were shipped from Ukraine abroad. This indicator is the largest over the last 9 years.
Such information was provided by APK-Inform.
The largest importers of this crop were such countries as Poland (43% of the total amount was supplied to this country), Lithuania (import volume was 36%) and Latvia (the volume of supplies amounted to 19% of the total amount).
In general, during the first three months of the new MY, 46.8 thousand tons were shipped from Ukraine, which exceeds the shipment figures of the past season by more than 20 times, and also it is 22% higher than the total volume of shipments over the past MY.
It should be recalled that in the past MY from Ukraine, 38.5 thousand tons of rye were shipped abroad, which is 3.3 times more than the figure for 16/17 MY.
In the current marketing year, which began on July 1, 2022, Ukraine exported 25,000 tons of rye. This is 58% less than in the same period last year, when 59.4 thousand tons were exported.
One of the reasons for the decrease in rye exports is the decrease in yield. According to the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture, in 2021, the rye harvest in Ukraine amounted to 700,000 tons, which is 17% less than in 2020.
In addition, there is an increase in rye consumption in the domestic market, which also affects the decrease in export volumes. According to Ukrzernoprom, in the current marketing year, rye consumption in the domestic market amounted to 60.7 thousand tons, which is 39.2% more than in the same period last year.
Thus, the decrease in export volumes of rye in Ukraine is explained by several factors, including a decrease in yields and an increase in consumption in the domestic market.
