Ukraine: Export of vegetable oils from seaports decreased
During the period from January to March, transhipment of vegetable oils from the seaports of Ukraine amounted to 1.49 million tons, which is 80 thousand tons less than the figure of the past year.
Such information was provided by the USPA.
Nikolayev seaport took the first place in vegetable oils transhipment. There were 682.5 thousand tons handled, which is only 0.06% less than the figure of the previous year. The second place was taken by the port of Chernomorsk. The volume of oil transhipment in this port was almost 382 thousand tons, which is almost 16.2% less than the indicator of the past year. The third place was taken by the port of Yuzhny, with a handling capacity of 355.47 thousand tons, which is slightly more than 10% higher than in the previous year. In addition, the volumes of transhipment in Odessa and Ismail ports amounted to 43.75 thousand tons and 26.42 thousand tons, respectively. In these ports, there was a significant increase in export rates of oils, namely, 145.5% and 38%.
It should be recalled that 10 million tons of grain crops were transhipped in seaports during this period, which exceeds the indicator for the same period of last year by 107.000 tons.
The volume of exports of vegetable oils from Ukraine has decreased this year amid problems with maritime transport. One of the reasons is cargo delays in seaports, which lead to a deterioration in product quality and an increase in its cost. In addition, the high price of transportation also affects the decrease in exports.
According to experts, vegetable oils are one of the main export products of Ukraine. However, due to problems with maritime transport, the volume of exports has decreased this year. In particular, the export of sunflower oil decreased by 5%, and vegetable oil by 22%.
In addition to problems with maritime transport, experts also note the instability of the hryvnia exchange rate and high energy prices, which also affects the decline in exports. However, some experts are confident that the situation may improve in the near future if appropriate measures are taken.
In general, Ukraine remains one of the largest exporters of vegetable oils in the world, and the export of this product continues to be one of the most important sources of income for the country.
