Ukraine: Export of corn to China increased

During the period from October to December of the current marketing year, the export of corn to China from Ukraine increased by almost 4-fold and now amounts to 725.000 tons. Whereas during the same period of the previous marketing year, 201 thousand tons were delivered to China.

The report says that the sharp increase in shipments to China is due to the fact that the US Department of Agriculture increased the forecast for China’s import of corn to 3 million tons, which exceeds the volume of import during the previous marketing year by 21%. During the previous marketing year, this figure was 2.5 million tons. Consequently, within only 3 months of this marketing year, China’s demand for corn supplies was 25% covered thanks to supplies from Ukraine.

It should be recalled that during the 12 months of 2017, 19.39 million tons of corn were exported from Ukraine to foreign markets, and the export amounted to 2.99 billion dollars.
