Russia: Russia took second place among the world sunflower producers

In 18/19 MY, Russia’s share in the world production of sunflower reached 24%. This means that Russia ranks second in the world in terms of sunflower production, second only to Ukraine.

During the last 3 years, Russia began to actively increase the production of sunflower, and in 18/19 MY, 20.7 million tons were collected. Next year, it is planned to increase this figure to 22.4 million tons.

In addition, along with the production volumes, the consumption volumes of vegetable oils also increased. So, in 16/17 MY, the consumption level was 1.7 million tons, whereas in 18/19 it rose to 2.3 million tons. In next marketing year, the level of consumption is expected to increase by 300 thousand tons.

Russia supplies this product to 40 countries of the world. The main importing countries are Turkey, Egypt and Iran.
