Corn export doubled
During the period from January to April 2020, the Russian Federation exported about 14 million tons of cereals, which is 27.5% higher than the export volume of the same period last year. Most of the cereals were wheat and meslin (almost 10.5 million tons, which is 22% more than last year). Barley export grew by 21% to 1.5 million tons and corn export grew by 100% to about 2 million tons.
Over the same period, rice exports fell by 60% (almost 38 thousand tons), wheat and wheat-rye flour by 14.3% (almost 97 thousand tons).
The export of sunflower seeds to foreign markets increased to 770 thousand tons, which is almost 8 times more than during the first four months of 2019.
Proper corn drying is the key to quality and a high export price.
After harvesting, proper drying of the grain is a key step in preparing it for storage and sale. Improper drying can lead to loss of quality, increased cracking, mold growth, and a decrease in the market value of the grain.
