Wheat prices on Euronext moved away from minimum marks
Wheat prices on the Euronext exchange rose on August 14, continuing their recovery from contract lows, thanks to the covering of short positions in futures for the next month and expectations of export demand for French wheat.
Thus, the value of the September contract according to the results of trading increased by 1.3%, to 197 euros per ton, moving away from the contract minimum of 192.5 euros, which was reached twice this week. December futures ended trading 1% higher – at 197.75 euros per ton, recovering from the minimum the day before (194.25 euros per ton).
According to market operators, the recent discount on September futures has contributed to importers’ interest in French wheat as they look for alternative offers in the face of limited supply at the beginning of the season in the Black Sea export zone. Thus, currently circulating unconfirmed official information about interest in purchasing French wheat from Egypt and Asian countries, including Thailand and Bangladesh.
However, despite the good harvest, in France, as in other European countries, there is currently limited grain sales by farmers dissatisfied with low prices.
The importance of wheat quality control in this context cannot be underestimated. Export conditions require strict adherence to standards such as the absence of impurities, moisture and gluten content. Insufficient control can lead to rejection of batches at the border, losses for farmers and a decline in the reputation of French grain on the global market. Experts advise to strengthen laboratory checks and use modern monitoring technologies to maintain competitiveness. This is especially relevant against the backdrop of climate change affecting crop quality.
