Ukraine: Approximately 20% of grain are in unsatisfactory condition
Agrarians from the eastern regions of the country say that about 10% to 20% of winter crops are now in unsatisfactory condition.
Such information was provided by APK-Inform.
Late sowing caused this situation, and as a result, the poor vegetation of these crops. In addition, the ambient temperature at night also dropped significantly, and there isn’t enough snow to protect the crops.
Agrarians believe that the condition of crops can still change for the better, because now the ambient temperature is rising.
It should be recalled that during the period from the beginning of the current MY and as of January 18, 22.390.000 t of cereals were supplied to international markets, which is 2.590.000 t less than the indicator of the same period of the previous marketing year.
The state of grain crops in Ukraine is assessed as unsatisfactory, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. According to the latest data, about a fifth of the grain crops are in critical condition, which could negatively affect the country’s yields and export opportunities.
The main reasons for this state of crops are the lack of rainfall and adverse weather conditions during the spring. However, experts note that the lack of financial support from the state, which could help farmers in purchasing the necessary equipment and materials for sowing, is also partly to blame for this situation.
In this regard, experts advise farmers to look for cereal varieties that are more resistant to adverse weather conditions, as well as take measures to improve soil quality and increase water use efficiency.
In addition, measures must be taken to reduce the negative impact of climate change on cereal crops. To this end, experts recommend an increase in the use of environmentally friendly methods of tillage and crop care.
