Ukraine: The poor development of the infrastructure leads to a decrease in the volumes of grain production

Over the past few years, grain yields in Ukraine have reached 60 million tons per year. However, as you know, just growing a good harvest is only half the battle. Further on, such areas as logistics and storage are really important and they require a good infrastructure development, otherwise it is not possible to maintain a good harvest.

According to analysts from the company Pro Consulting, every year Ukrainian farmers lose up to 25% of the crop yield, as the capacities for storing such a volume of the produced product are not sufficient.

According to the statement of analysts and information from the Agrarian Exchange, in the territory of Ukraine now there are 753 elevators in operation, the total capacity of which is 33.5 million tons. Moreover, their condition is dissatisfactory today. 80% of elevators need urgent renovation.

Also, logistics on the territory of the country is poorly adjusted, which hinders the development of the agro-industrial complex. The quality of the road surface is very poor, the lack of investors to upgrade the railway and roads – all this affects the agriculture.

The director of the company Prometey Rafael Goroya says that despite the deplorable condition of the railway transport, it is by far the best type of transportation. He also emphasized the need for the state to invest in the development of transport infrastructure to preserve the harvest at the same level.

Insufficient infrastructure development is one of the problems that can negatively affect grain production. This can be caused, for example, by insufficient accessibility of roads, imperfection of the logistics system, inefficient storage and transportation of grain. In addition, poor infrastructure can increase the time needed to produce and transport grain, which can adversely affect grain quality.

In addition, the poor state of infrastructure can limit the availability of grain to consumers and reduce the competitiveness of the agricultural sector as a whole. The solution to this problem can be increased investment in infrastructure and its development, including the creation of new roads, improved logistics systems and the development of new technologies for storing and transporting grain.

In addition, public and private companies can cooperate to improve the infrastructure in the agricultural sector, including through the creation of new warehouses and terminals for grain transportation. This can help increase grain production and improve its quality.

Thus, poor infrastructure development is one of the problems that can reduce grain production. Improving the infrastructure and its development can lead to an increase in the efficiency and competitiveness of the agricultural sector, as well as an improvement in the quality of the grain produced.
