Sowing campaign has started in Ukraine – prospects and challenges
The spring sowing campaign has officially started in Ukraine. Despite difficult weather conditions and economic challenges, farmers are actively working on soil preparation and sowing of early grain crops.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, this year the sown areas under winter and spring crops will remain at the level of last year, although adjustments are possible due to climatic conditions. Farmers are currently focused on sowing wheat, barley and peas, which are key crops for the Ukrainian market.
According to estimates by the Institute of Agrarian Economics, this year the harvest of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine is expected to be 60 million tons. Gross crop production is forecast to grow by 3.4% compared to 2024, mainly due to an increase in grain cultivation.
As stated by the Director of the National Scientific Center “Institute of Agrarian Economics”, Academician of the NAAS Yuriy Lupenko, the harvest of grains and legumes this year may exceed last year’s figure by 7.6%. The sown areas for these crops will not change significantly (+0.2%), but a significant expansion of the areas for corn (+14.1%) and sorghum (+12.3%) is expected. At the same time, a reduction in areas will occur for other grains (-16.5%) and legumes (-27.3%).
In the industrial crops segment, a decrease in areas sown with sunflower (-2.2%), soybean (-1.2%) and sugar beet (-8.7%) is forecast. Instead, a slight increase in the area under potatoes (+0.2%), vegetables (+2.7%) and <strong “>potatoes (+0.5%) is expected.
Climatic factors and challenges for farmers
The current season may be marked by unstable weather, which will create additional difficulties for farmers. Temperature drops, possible spring frosts and lack of moisture in the soil may affect the germination of crops.
Also, an important aspect remains the availability of resources – fuel, fertilizers and high-quality seeds. The government and agricultural companies have to actively work to provide the necessary materials for stable sowing.
The importance of grain dryers in further preservation of the harvest
One of the important next stages after harvesting is its proper processing and storage. In this context, the use of modern grain dryers play an important role. Thanks to this equipment, farmers can reduce grain moisture to optimal levels, and prevent spoilage and reduce the risk of losses during storage.
Grain dryers allow you to improve product quality, which is especially important for export. More information about modern European grain dryers and their advantages can be found at the link:🔗 https://pis.com.ua/en/category/our-products/grain-dryers-en/
Thanks to proper drying, Ukrainian farmers can ensure a stable sales market and high competitiveness of domestic grain at the international level
