UKRAINE: The number of grain shipments along Dnipro River has significantly decreased
In January 2021, the volume of cargo transported by Dnipro amounted to almost 362 thousand tons, and in January 2020, it was 333 thousand tons. As for the grain transportation by the river, the volumes also decreased by 34% comparing to the previous year. In 2020, there were 208 thousand tons, in 2021 the volume of transported grain reached 137.2 thousand tons.
The number of vessels voyages in January reached 340 voyages.
Ukraine is experiencing a significant decrease in the volume of grain transportation along the Dnieper River, which is impacting the logistics infrastructure and the agricultural sector of the country. This reduction can be attributed to various factors, such as changing demand for grain transportation, declining production volumes, or shifts in preferences for transportation routes. The decrease in grain transportation along the Dnieper River can lead to increased costs and delivery time for grain crops, as well as create challenges for agricultural enterprises, especially those dependent on river transportation. To overcome this issue, it is necessary to analyze the reasons for the decrease and develop measures to improve and support river transportation, such as modernizing port infrastructure, developing alternative transport routes, and enhancing logistical efficiency.
