Ukraine: Sowing of sunflower is completed on 5 million hectares

As of May 16, sunflower was sown on an area of 4.8 million hectares, which is 84% of the planned area for this crop.

This information was obtained from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

In addition, the planting of spring grain crops was completed by 87%. These crops were sown on 6.3 million hectares.

The structure of the current season’s sowing campaign is as follows: 1 million hectares were sown with soybeans, which is 56% of the forecast. Maize was sown on 4 million hectares, which is 87% of the forecast. Buckwheat and millet were sown on an area of 17 thousand hectares and 29 thousand hectares, which amounts to 18% and 51% of the forecast, respectively.

It should be recalled that according to the calculations of experts, gross crop production will decrease by 5.3% in the current year.

The sowing campaign of sunflower on an area of more than 5 million hectares has been completed in Ukraine. This will increase the production of oil and animal feed. Sunflower is one of the most important crops in Ukraine and is used to produce oil, which is the country’s main export product. An increase in the area under sunflower seeds contributes to an increase in the production of oil and animal feed, which in turn has a positive effect on the country’s economy. In addition to area and volume, it is extremely important to pay attention to the drying of harvested grain, especially sunflower. Failure to reduce seed moisture to a safe level risks mold development, enzymatic spoilage, loss of oil quality, and deterioration in storage.
