Ukraine: In Ukraine, production of cereals has decreased, but exports have increased

During 12 months of 2017, Ukraine produced 328.5 thousand tons of cereals, which is only 1% less than in the previous year.

Such information was provided by APK-Inform.

The report says that the quantity of cereals produced during the reporting period decreased, but the production of peas increased significantly.

The amount of peas produced is 27% of the total amount of cereals produced. The structure of cereals production is as follows: buckwheat groats – 17% of the total number of cereals produced, corn groats – 16% of the total number of cereals produced, wheat cereals – 13% of the total number of cereals produced. Also, the production of flakes is 9%.

The export of cereals and flakes from Ukraine for 12 months of 2017 is 74.1 thousand tons, and thus the increase was 30%. The main consumers of Ukrainian cereals during this period were CIS countries (42% of total exports), EU countries (27% of total exports), North Africa (12% of total exports) and the Middle East (11% of total exports).

In recent years, the production of cereals in Ukraine has decreased, but exports continue to grow. This is due to the fact that Ukrainian manufacturers are actively looking for new markets and expanding their capabilities in existing ones. The main partner countries in the export of cereals are Turkey, Egypt, India, China, Poland and others.

The reduction in the production of cereals in Ukraine is due to a number of reasons, among which we can highlight the lack of raw materials, high competition and production inefficiency. However, exports continue to grow, which allows Ukrainian producers to maintain their positions in the market.

In addition, Ukrainian cereal producers are actively working to improve product quality and develop new types of cereals, which also allows increasing exports. One of the main trends in Ukrainian agriculture is the growth of agricultural exports, which stimulates the development of the industry and increases its competitiveness in the world market.
