Ukraine: 2017/18 MY. Export volumes of cereals

The export volumes of grain crops during the current MY amounted to 27 million tons, which is 2.29 million tons less than last year’s figures.

Such information was provided by Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

It is noted that during the specified period, wheat exports totalled 13.18 million tons, which is 0.35 million tons more than last year’s figures.

Also, among the crops exported during the specified period there was barley (export volumes amounted to 4 million tons), corn (export volumes amounted to 9.45 million tons) and rye (export volumes amounted to 16.8 thousand tons). It should be noted that after analysing these figures we can see a decreased in export volumes of barley and corn by 0.63 million tons and 1.26 million tons respectively.

It should be recalled that Ukraine has increased export supplies to China, and during the period from October to January, to this country slightly more than 0.81 million tons of corn were supplied.

In the 2017/18 marketing year, Ukraine became one of the leaders in the global grain market. The export of grain crops reached record levels, which favorably affected the country’s economy. According to the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, grain exports for this period amounted to 39.4 million tons, which is 15.4% more than in the previous marketing year.

Wheat was the main export crop of Ukraine in 2017/18 mg. The export of this grain crop reached 17.6 million tons, which is 16.3% more than in the previous marketing year. The second largest export was in barley – 4.6 million tons. The third place was taken by corn, the export volume of which amounted to 17.2 million tons.

In addition, exports of other cereals also increased significantly in the 2017/18 marketing year. For example, barley exports increased by 34%, and sorghum exports by 94%. In general, the structure of Ukrainian grain exports was diverse and performed well in the 2017/18 marketing year.

Thus, Ukraine continues to maintain its position in the world market of grain crops and continues to increase export supplies. This has a positive effect on the country’s economy.
