Kazakhstan: Spring sowing in the southern regions of Kazakhstan

According to data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, as of April 12, 90 thousand hectares of spring crops were sown in the southern regions of Kazakhstan.

In the Almaty region, 4% of the area was planted, namely 9.5 thousand hectares, while 80.5 thousand hectares were sown in the Zhambyl region, which makes up to 52% of the total area.

It should be recalled that according to preliminary information from «Kazakh-Zerno», the total number of sown areas this year will be more than 21.8 million hectares, which almost corresponds to the value of the past year.

14.7 million hectares were allocated for cereals, of which 11.4 million hectares are for wheat. In comparison with 2017, the area under wheat decreased by 544 thousand hectares. Also, the areas for forage crops will be increased, as the needs of the livestock sector in feed continue to grow. In comparison with 2017, the areas under feed grain will increase by 16% and the area occupied by it will be more than 2.5 million hectares. Also, about 2.6 million hectares are allocated for oilseeds.
