Kazakhstan: Volumes of flour export

During November this year, the export of flour increased, if compared with October. However, compared with the same period last year, exports volume have fallen significantly. Earlier it was reported that the volume of flour exports for November 2017 is higher than the export figures in October 2017. A similar tendency was observed in the autumn last year, when flour exports in September amounted to almost 148 thousand tons, in October – 239 thousand tons and in November, slightly more than 276 thousand tons.

According to the data provided by analysts, in November 2017 flour exports reached a level of 195.500 tons. While in October they shipped 187 thousand tons, and in September 152.7 thousand tons was exported. So we see that this year the export dynamics is positive, however, the export volumes for the last two months are much inferior to those for the same period of the previous year.

For deliveries to foreign flour markets, the end of the year became the peak period. However, every year the month when there were the maximum export volumes was different, for example, in 2016 the record month was November and the export volume was 276 thousand tons, in 2015 this was December (the export volume was 228.8 thousand tons), in 2014 the record month was October (the export volume was 213.8 thousand tons), and in 2013 – again December was the most successful month (the export volume was 259.6 thousand tons). This year, the majority of flour was exported in November. Also, it is noteworthy that during this year the figures for export supplies of flour have not exceeded 200 thousand tons, while in 2016 it was possible to reach this figure 4 times – in April, October, November and December.

The main consumers of Kazakh flour are the countries of Central Asia, China, Russia, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. However, according to experts, Kazakhstan has the potential for further growth of exports in the world flour market, which is due to the unique natural conditions and high quality of production.

Among the factors influencing the growth of flour exports from Kazakhstan, one can single out an increase in production volumes and improvement of technologies, as well as active work to expand sales markets and attract investment in the industry.
