Kazakhstan: In the north of Kazakhstan sown areas for oilseeds increase

In the North-Kazakhstan region, a policy of diversifying areas for more profitable crops continues to be implemented.

Over the past year, areas for oilseeds have increased by 40%. Also, there is an increase in the number of areas for legumes. Over the past year, the increase was 176% and now the area allocated for beans is almost 250 thousand hectares. Also, the greatest increase is observed in areas for lentils, namely – 181%. Now under lentils it is allocated slightly more than 217 thousand hectares.

According to information from the statistical service of the region, in 2017 in the North Kazakhstan region the total number of sown areas was 4.3 million hectares, of which 3.09 million hectares were allocated for cereals and legumes, and 713.6 thousand hectares for oilseeds.

n the north of Kazakhstan, there has been an increase in the area under oilseeds in recent years. This can lead to an increase in butter production and an improvement in the economic situation of the region.

The northern regions of Kazakhstan occupy more than half of the country’s territory and are characterized by difficult natural conditions. However, various oilseeds are grown here, such as rapeseed, sunflower, soybeans, etc. Each of these crops has its own characteristics and advantages.

Currently, rapeseed is the most popular oilseed crop in the north of Kazakhstan. It is grown on over 200,000 hectares and is an important source of income for local farmers. In addition, rapeseed can be used as a fodder crop.

The second most popular oilseed crop in the north of Kazakhstan is sunflower. It is grown on an area of more than 100 thousand hectares. Sunflower oil is an important export product for Kazakhstan and its production can be increased by increasing the area under cultivation.
